GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second week in a row, a member of the Virginia Tech track & field team was named the ACC Men’s Field Performer of the week, as Manuel Ziegler took the honors after his impressive performance at the Virginia Tech Invitational last weekend.
In his first meet competing in a Hokie uniform, Ziegler won the triple jump at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Ziegler’s mark of 53’00.75” (16.17m) placed him second nationally behind Eastern Michigan’s Donald Scott. Ziegler’s impressive jump also sits him atop of the ACC leaderboard in the triple jump and places him second overall in the Virginia Tech record book behind former Hokie great Hasheem Halim. The Dresden, Germany native out jumped the nearest competitor at the meet by almost three feet.
Last week, Chris Uhle took the honor after winning at the Akron Pole Vault Convention. Thus far, Hokies have swept the ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Week honors.
Ziegler and the Hokies will be back in action this weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Hokie Invitational at Rector Field House.
