Uhle kicks off 2015 with first-place finish at Akron Pole Vault Convention

AKRON, Ohio - The Virginia Tech track & field team kicked off the 2014 season with an impressive outing at the Akron Pole Vault Convention. Chris Uhle won the invitational section of the men’s pole vault while Kristen Lee posted a second place finish in the women’s invitational section.

Uhle’s winning mark of 17’07” (5.36m) was a personal best, and beat the nearest competitor by four inches. Torben Laidig followed Uhle in third place with a mark of 16’11” (5.16m). Jared Allison (16’05.25”, 5.01m), James Steck (16.05.25, 5.01m), Brad Johnson (15’11.25”, 4.86m) and Jeffrey Linta (15’05.25”, 4.71m) finished in fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth places, respectively, in a field of 14 competitors.

On the women’s side, Kristen Lee hit a height of 12’07.5” (3.85m). Emma King finished in fifth place for the Hokies with a mark of 12’01.5 (3.70m). Olivia Privitera (11’01.75", 3.40m) and Erinn Schaal (10’08”, 3.25m) finished in 11th and 14th places, respectively.

The pole vaulters and the rest of the Virginia Tech track and field team will be back in action next week when the squad hosts the Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 16 and 17 at Rector Fieldhouse.
