Laidig named ACC Freshman of the Year
Freshman earns honor on the heels of All-America performance

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman pole vaulter Torben Laidig was named the 2014 ACC Men's Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the year as announced by the ACC office on Friday afternoon after a phenomenal indoor season that saw him win an ACC title and garner All-America honors.

In his debut season, Laidig soared to new heights in the men's pole vault at te 2014 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Germany native destroyed his previous personal best by hitting a mark of 17'10.50" (5.45m) to secure a first-place finish in the men's pole vault.

Laidig finished in sixth place at the 2014 DI Indoor Track & Field Championships tying his personal best of 17'10.50" (5.45m) en route to All-America honors in his first season competing collegiately.

Laidig and the rest of the track & field team will look to continue improving as they move on to the outdoor season with their sights on an ACC Championship.
