BLACKSBURG, Va. -The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams will hold their fourth and final home meet of the year as they host the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 21-22, 2014 at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, while some members of the distance team will be traveling to the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. 13 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams are slated to compete.
Several distance runners traveled to the UCS Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C., last weekend where the Hokies put in an array of quality performances.
Tech posted a one-two-three finish in the women’s 5000-meter race. Courtney Dobbs crossed the line first with a time of 16:43.39. Abigail Motley was the next Hokie to cross the line with a time of 17:07.96. Madalyn Nuckols posted a 17:28.56 finish, good for third place.
The Virginia Tech women again swept the podium in the women’s 800-meter race. Amanda Smith posted a time of 2:08.42. Frances Dowd was right behind her with a time of 2:08.43, and following them was Hanna Green who finished at 2:09.07.
Leoule Degfae thwarted the competition in the men’s 3000-meter race, posting a 8:07.35 finish en route to a first place finish. Tihut Degfae won the men’s 800-meter race with a time of 1:52.39
Events for the Virginia Tech Challenge begin on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. and at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
