GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four members of the Virginia Tech Track & Field team were named to the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Outdoor Track & Field team, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. Seniors Ronnie Black and Matthias Treff were honored by the conference, along with sophomores Matt Hoogland and Chris Uhle. This is the fourth of such honors for Treff, while the other three have earned the accolade for the first time. Florida State’s Michael Fout was named the men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Treff, an industrial and system engineering major, finished his career at Tech winning his fourth straight conference title in the javelin. With a toss of 249-1 (75.92m) on his first attempt, the Burgthann, Germany native couldn’t be matched and held on for the victory. Treff also competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and finished tied for 15th in the javelin with a throw of 217-06 (66.29m).
Hoogland, a human nutrition, food and exercise major, competed for the Hokies in the decathlon at the ACC Outdoor Championships. After third-places finishes in the pole vault and 1500, the Springfield, Va., native earned an eighth-place finish.
Uhle, a HNFE major, earned a second-place finish in the pole vault at the ACC Outdoor Championships this spring and went on to compete at the NCAA Championships. The Powell, Ohio native tied for 15th at nationals with a vault of 17-02.75 (5.25m).
Black, a psychology major, recently earned a third-place finish in the high jump at USA Championships. The Newport News, Va., native began his post-season run winning the high jump title at the ACC Outdoor Championships and later notched an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
