Mahmic second in hammer throw at Bob Pollock Invite
Senior records his second longest throw of the season

BLACKSBURG, Va. - In the only event of the day for the Virginia Tech track & field team, Denis Mahmic finished in second place in the men's hammer throw to open the Bob Pollock Invitational at Rock Norman Track & Field Complex.

Mahmic, the top collegian in the field, came in second place to former Kentucky thrower Andy Fryman. The Hokie senior qualified for the finals in second place, and on his fourth attempt he recorded his second-longest throw of the season at 205-1 (62.50m).

The Hokie sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, vaulters and distance runners will take to the complex tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m., with the women's pole vault. Out in Los Angeles, Calif., the distance team will start at 6:05 p.m., E.T., at the Oxy Invite with women's 1500 meters.
