GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s Marvin Bracy and Virginia Tech’s Alexander Ziegler have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Co-Performers of the Week.
Ziegler, a 2012 Bowerman Award semifinalist and one of 10 named to the award’s 2013 preseason watch list, opened up the final season of his collegiate career with a mark of 70-9.25 (21.57m) to lead a strong overall showing by the host team in the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. The throw by the Dischingen, Germany native bettered the current second-best throw in an NCAA indoor meet this season by more than a foot.
The win was Ziegler’s seventh of his career in the weight throw and it was his fourth best event-winning throw.
Ziegler and the Hokies are off from competition this weekend before gearing up for the VT Elite Meet at Rector Field House on Feb. 8-9.
