LYNCHBURG, Va. - The 2012-13 Virginia Tech indoor track & field season got underway this afternoon as junior Scott Campbell and sophomore Matt Hoogland competed in the first four events of the heptathlon at the Liberty Kickoff at the Tolsma Indoor Track Center. Campbell currently leads the competition while Hoogland sits in sixth.

Campbell's 2,781 total points leads Tevan McIntire of Liberty by 58 points. The junior built the lead by winning both the 60m dash and long jump, while finishing fourth in the high jump and sixth in the shot put. Hoogland is in sixth place with 2,244 points after finishing sixth in two events and seventh in the other two.

The remaining events of the heptathlon will begin tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. Tech's pole vaulters will also begin competition tomorrow with the women slated to start at 9:30 a.m., and the men to follow at 2:30 p.m.
