BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Virginia Tech freshman Thomas Curtin (Leesburg, Va.) finished ninth in the 10000 meters on day two of the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on the campus of Indiana University Saturday evening.
Curtin, running his first 10k in competition of the track & field season, placed ninth out of 21 competitors in a time of 32:19.40. Oregon's Ryan Pickering won the race in 30:56.77.
In addition, freshman Sarah Rapp (Raleigh, N.C.) started the 5000 meters, but did not finish.
The USA Junior Championships (for athletes ages 19 and under) serves as a qualifier for this year’s IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships as top performers will have the opportunity to be part of the American team that will compete in Barcelona, Spain from July 10th to July 15th.
