BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech All-Americans Keith Ricks and Darrell Wesh have been selected by USA Track & Field to compete for the United States at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) U23 Championships July 6-8 in Guanajuato, Mexico. Wesh will be a member of the United States’ 4x100 meter relay pool and Ricks will compete in the 200 meters.

The North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships is a continental track and field event organized by the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association. The NACAC is one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). The U23 event is held every two years.

Ricks and Wesh were chosen by USA Track & Field based upon the May 29, 2012 U.S. performance rank order list, for all age-eligible athletes (those being 20, 21 or 22). The 2012 NACAC U23 team consists of two athletes per individual event, plus additional members selected for relay pools.

Wesh finished fourth in the 100 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship last week running 10.30 into a strong headwind, after running a personal best and school record 10.15 in the semifinal round.

Ricks reset his own school record twice in as many days in the 200 meters at the NCAA East Prelims, running 20.46 in the first round then 20.45 in the quarterfinals. He competed as an individual in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the NCAA Championship.

Ricks and Wesh also ran on Tech’s school record setting and 13th place 4x100 meter relay (39.62) at the NCAA Championship, which earned second team All-America honors.

Both men have also qualified for the upcoming U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which begin June 21 in Eugene, Ore. Wesh achieved the Olympic Trials and Olympic Games “A” standard in the 100 meters and Ricks achieved both standards in the 200 meters. Ricks also has the Trials “B” (provisional) standard in the 100 meters.
