DURHAM, N.C. – Freshman Luka Mustafic of the Virginia Tech men’s track & field team won the shot put Sunday at the Duke Twilight at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Mustafic bettered seven other men in the field as he notched a winning toss of 57-4.75 (17.49m). After fouling on his first attempt, Mustafic recorded a good throw of 55-7.75 (16.96m) on his second attempt, before hitting the winning mark on his third throw.
Mustafic's win made it 4-for-4 for the Hokies as Tech won all four events they had competitors in this weekend. Yesterday, Alexander Ziegler (hammer throw), Matthias Treff (javelin throw) and Hunter Hall (pole vault) all won at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational.
The Hokies will compete in four “last chance” meets next week as student-athletes have their final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Meet, which is scheduled for May 24-26 in Jacksonville, Fla. Tech is slated to send competitors to Roanoke College’s Twilight on Thursday, Clemson’s Tiger Qualifier and the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday and Saturday and NC State’s Wolfpack Last Chance on Sunday.
