CLEMSON, S.C. – All-Americans and 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Champions Alexander Ziegler (hammer throw), Matthias Treff (javelin throw) and Hunter Hall (pole vault) all earned wins Saturday as members of the Virginia Tech men’s track & field team competed at Clemson’s second annual Bob Pollock Invitational at the Rock Norman Track & Field Complex.
Ziegler, the defending national champion in the hammer throw, won the event with a season best mark of 240-1 (73.17m). Ziegler had a strong series as after he fouled on his first attempt, all five of his remaining throws were at least 71.50m and he hit his best mark on his final attempt. Treff, competing for the second time this season, secured the victory in the javelin on his first throw with a mark of 242-10 (74.02m). He bettered his nearest competitor in the event by almost 40 feet. Hall won his third consecutive and fourth overall pole vault competition of the season with a clearance of 17-3 (5.26m). Joe Davis was second as he also cleared 17-3 and Mike Miller was fifth for Tech at 16-9.25 (5.11m).
