GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior All-American Marcel Lomnicky (Nitra, Slovakia) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Track & Field Co-Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday. He shares the weekly award with Spencer Adams of Clemson.
On Friday, Lomnicky won the weight throw at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet with an NCAA automatic qualifying and meet record throw of 75 feet, seven and a half inches (23.05m) in his first competition of the season. Lomnicky’s mark currently ranks as the top throw in the NCAA this season for the weight throw and was a personal best by nearly six feet. He was named the men’s outstanding performer of the meet.
For his career, Lomnicky is a five-time All-American and four-time ACC Champion. He was the 2009 NCAA National Champion in the hammer throw.
