NEW ORLEANS, La. – Behind a strong weekend at the Hokie Invitational, the Virginia Tech men’s indoor track & field team moved up six spots to No. 12 nationally, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday.
In all, eight Hokies earned wins last weekend, including six on the men’s team. Junior All-American Alexander Ziegler became the first Hokie to qualify for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships-as he qualified in the weight throw-while senior All-American Hasheem Halim (triple jump) and junior Jonathan McCants (300 meters) each set school records while winning their respective events to lead the Tech men.
In addition to Ziegler, Halim and McCants, sophomore Darrell Wesh (60 meters), senior All-American Joe Davis (pole vault) and senior Keith Ricks (200 meters) all earned wins. Senior Ogechi Nwaneri (60 meters) and sophomore Kristen Brown (60 meter hurdles) were individual winners for the women.
Tech has this weekend off from competition and returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, back at Rector Field House as it hosts the VT Elite Meet
