EUGENE, Ore.-- Former Virginia Tech athlete and three-time NCAA Champion Queen Harrison qualified for a spot on Team USA with a second place finish in the women’s 400m hurdles Saturday afternoon at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The 2011 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will select the members of Team USA who will compete in the IAAF World Championships Aug. 27-Sept. 4 in Daegu, South Korea.

Harrison, who was second (56.49) in her Thurday heat and fourth (56.86) in one of Friday’s semifinal heats, drew the inside lane and held form throughout to finish second in an impressive 54.78.

In 2010, Harrison received the Bowerman Award which is given to the most outstanding male and female athlete of the season. She became Tech’s first ever women’s NCAA Champion, eventually earning three titles and becoming the first athlete in NCAA history to win both the 100 and 400-Meter Hurdles during the outdoor championships. She was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Track Athlete of the Year, earned four ACC titles and set four school records, including an ACC Championship record in the 60-Meter Hurdles.
