GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Hokie distance runners concluded the weekend competing at the Aggie Classic, hosted by North Carolina A&T. Virginia Tech won five events, including Michael Hammond moving to third all-time at Tech in the 800 meters.

Hammond won the 800 meters with a new personal best time of 1:49.07 which puts him third all-time at Virginia Tech. Nick McLaughlin (1:49.96) and Jeff Miller (1:50.75) were right behind in second and third, respectively, posting new collegiate bests as well. Will Mulherin, Tech’s school record-holder in the 5,000 meters, won the event Sunday (14:42.02). Jared Berman (9:00.68) and Matt Satterwhite (9:04.46) took the top two spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with Satterwhite posting a new personal best. Ryan Hagen took third in the 1,500 meters (3:47.79) with Kieran Lee in fourth (3:48.69), both of which are new PRs.

In the women’s 800 meters, Frances Dowd led the pack, winning the event in 2:10.30 with Lauren Pinkston (2nd, 2:12.21) and Sammy Dow (6th, 2:15.46) following closely behind. Lauren Lemieux took the top spot in the 1,500 meters (4:28.09) with Courtney Dobbs (5th, 4:38.56), Madalyn Nuckols (6th, 4:39.30), Taylor Crosson (7th, 4:39.69) and Alex Watt (9th, 4:49.40) finishing in a pack shortly after.

The Hokies have a week off from competition before heading to Bloomington, Ind., for the NCAA East Regional Preliminary meet beginning Thursday, May 26.
