BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech Invitational concluded on Saturday, with a handful of Hokies competing in the second day of competition.
Beginning the day in the field events was the women’s pole vault, where Kelly Phillips was Tech’s highest finisher, clearing 12-9.5 (3.90m) in her second attempt to earn a fourth-place finish. In the men’s pole vault, six-time All-American Yavgeniy Olhovsky and two-time All-American, defending ACC indoor pole vault champion Hunter Hall paired up for third and fourth place finishes, respectfully, at 16-7.25 (5.06m). Redshirt-senior Jared Jodon, competing unattached, won the pole vault, clearing the 17-1 (5.21m) mark on his first attempt. Two-time All-ACC triple jumper Hasheem Halim competed in Saturday’s long jump, placing 10th at 21-10.75 (6.67m).
The Hokies only had two competitors in the running events Saturday. Scott Campbell made his Hokie debut Saturday in the men’s 400-meter dash, placing fifth in the final heat with a time of 52.26. After competing in yesterday’s 60-meter dash, freshman Sherrod Long finished third in his heat in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 23.97.
The Hokies continue their indoor season next weekend, hosting two days of competition at the Hokie Invitational, beginning Friday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m.
