BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech track and field fans can watch a live stream of the Bowerman award ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on Flotrack.org. Former Tech standout Queen Harrison is one of three women’s finalists up for the prestigious national award, awarded to one outstanding male and female track and field athlete every season since its inception in 2009. The votes have been taken and the winners will be announced tomorrow night at a ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, hosted by ESPN SportsCenter anchor John Anderson. Ceremonies include one-on-one interviews with all six finalists, as well their highlights from last season.
Harrison was named as one of three finalists in September, along with Iowa State’s Lisa Koll and UTEP’s Blessing Okagbare. The men’s finalists are Arizona State’s Ryan Whiting, as well as Oregon’s Ashton Eaton and Andrew Wheating.
In 2010, Harrison became Tech’s first ever women’s NCAA Champion, eventually earning three titles and becoming the first athlete in NCAA history to win both the 100 and 400-Meter Hurdles during the outdoor championships. She was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Track Athlete of the Year, earned four ACC titles and set four school records, including an ACC Championship record in the 60-Meter Hurdles.
