Berman to Compete Friday at IAAF World Junior Championships
3,000-Meter Steeplechase Set For 9:45 a.m. EST Start

Virginia Tech freshman Jared Berman is set to compete Friday in the initial heats of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. A week of competition that began Monday will continue through the weekend, culminating in various final events on Sunday. Friday’s heats in the 3000m steeplechase are set to begin at 9:45 a.m. EST. The Fairfax, Va. native will be vying for a bid to Sunday’s finals, slated for a 12:50 p.m. start.

Berman qualified for the IAAF meet back in June at the USATF Junior Nationals in Des Moines, IA. There, he placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase, coming in well under the 9:10.00 world qualifying standard at 9:04.76. This mark is just shy of his collegiate-best 9:04.60, which he earned at the 2010 ACC Outdoor Championships.
