BLACKSBURG, Virginia -- Three Virginia Tech freshmen will travel to Des Moines, Iowa to participate in the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Jared Berman, Ryan Hagen and David Wilson are entered in the event, for ages 19 and under, which being held June 23-27, in Drake Stadium on the Drake University campus. The junior competition is taking place in conjunction with the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Hagen (Sterling, Va.) is scheduled to participate in both the 800 and 1500 meter events. He recorded his best 800m time of 1:51.80 at the Aggie Classic hosted by Texas A&M. Hagen posted a personal best 3:53.69 in winning his 1500m section at the Colonal Relays in Williamsburg, Va. He will see his first action on Thursday at 2:10 p.m. eastern in the first round of the 800 meter with the final scheduled for Friday at 2:40 p.m. Should he not qualify for the 800m final, Hagen will participate in the 1500m first round on Friday at 12:15 p.m. with the final slated for Saturday at 6:40 p.m.
Berman (Fairfax, Va.), a NCAA East Regional qualifier, will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase which is scheduled for Thursday at 2:45 p.m. He recorded a personal best of 9:04.60 at the ACC Outdoor Championships in Clemson, S.C.
Wilson (Danville, Va.), also a NCAA East Regional qualifier, won both the Miami Invitational and Liberty Twilight triple jump events this season. He had a personal best of 51-05.50 at the ACC Outdoor Championships. The triple jump competition is scheduled for Friday at 2:20 p.m.
