BLACKSBURG, Va. – Freshman Jared Berman was added to the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase field at the 2010 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary Round, the NCAA announced late Monday.
Berman clocked a season-best 9:04.60 en route to a sixth-place finish in the event at the ACC Outdoor Championships, a time that ended up being good enough to qualify for the national meet in the event. The women’s 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays will also compete in the NCAA meet, along with 24 individual Hokies competing in 28 events. The 4x100-meter relay will consist of senior Kristi Castlin, freshman Funmi Alabi, sophomore Aunye Boone and sophomore Ogechi Nwaneri. The 4x400-meter relay unit will be composed of senior Queen Harrison, freshman Yvonne Amegashie, senior Asia Washington and Boone.
The NCAA East Preliminary Round begins on Thursday and will run through Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Hokies’ first event will be at 4 p.m., on Thursday when Harrison and Washington will compete in the first round of the women’s 400-meter hurdles. Results will be available on hokiesports.com.
