BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Queen Harrison is one of three finalists for the Honda Award for Women’s Track and Field, the association announced on Friday.
Harrison’s senior season has capped a stellar career for the Richmond, Va., native. She captured Virginia Tech’s first title in women’s track and field at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships, winning the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.95. The championship also marked the fourth All-America honor of her career. Thus far this outdoor season, Harrison broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking 12.61 en route to the Penn Relays championship, and won the ACC crowns in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles.
The Hermitage High alum tallied the ACC Women’s Track MVP, USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year and ACC Women’s Track Performer of the Year awards during the indoor season. She also collected ACC Women’s Track MVP honors for the outdoor season, the Penn Relays Women’s Individual Athlete of the Meet and has won the conference’s weekly award three times this year.
The winner of the sport’s Honda Award, after nationwide balloting, will become a candidate for The Honda-Broderick Cup awarded annually to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. In addition to the honor of this selection, American Honda will donate $1,000 to the women’s athletic fund of each nominee’s university. The winner’s program will receive $5,000.
