CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Igor Misljenovic began the Virginia Tech track and field squads’ ACC Championships on Thursday in Clemson, S.C., with a championship performance in the men’s discus throw.

Misljenovic enjoyed a stellar indoor campaign in which he qualified for his first NCAA meet and carried the momentum over to the outdoor season, winning his first career ACC championship. The Zagreb, Croatia, native tossed a season-best mark of 182-02 in his second-to-last throw, and runner-up finisher Steve Marcelle from Georgia Tech fell almost two feet short in his final throw to seal the event for Misljenovic. Thursday’s discus title marked the first conference championship in the men’s discus since Eddie Boes won the event at the 1997 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.

The Hokie men currently sit in sixth place after day one action with 10 points. The ACC Championships continue on Friday, beginning with the men’s shot put and the women’s long jump at 11 a.m. Results will be available on hokiesports.com.
