Vaulters open the Sea Ray Relays for Tech
Miller wins open section of pole vault

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Junior Mike Miller captured the open section of the men’s pole vault to highlight the first day of competition at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday.

The Keezletown, Va., native vaulted 16-02.75 to win the pole vault in his first competition of the season. Miller is coming off an injury that forced him to miss the entire indoor season. Senior Yavgeniy Olhovsky, junior Hunter Hall and junior Jared Jodon will compete in the invitational section of the pole vault tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.

Junior Kelly Phillips and freshman Emma DeJarnette both competed in the women’s pole vault on Friday. Phillps placed 13th with a mark of 11-11.75, while DeJarnette cleared 11-05.75 en route to a 17th-place finish.

Events for the Sea Ray Relays continue tomorrow. Results will be available on hokiesports.com.
