BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s track and field squad announced the addition of distance runner Julianne Bigler for the 2010-2011 season on Friday.
Julianne Bigler hails from Alexandria, Va., and went to West Potomac High School where she ran for former Virginia Tech distance runner Jennifer Dietz. She was a 2008 Virginia AAA All-State selection in cross country and received Washington Post All-Met honors in cross country and track and field in 2008. Bigler placed third in the 3,200-meters at the 2009 Virginia Northern Region Championships and also ran on the runner-up 4x800-meter relay squad at the meet. She owns personal-best times of 5:13 in the mile and 11:03.39 in the 3,200-meters. A National Honor Society member, Bigler is the daughter of Jeff and Julie Bigler.
“Julianne has been an All-State performer in Virginia in both cross country and track,” head cross country and distance coach Ben Thomas said. “Coached by former Hokie runner Jenn Dietz, she adds to one of our finest in-state signing classes ever.”
