BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Queen Harrison and sophomore Keith Ricks received ACC Women’s and Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week honors, respectively, the conference announced on Tuesday after impressive performances at the Hokie Invitational.
Harrison began the meet by earning the 60-meter hurdle title on Friday. The Richmond, Va., native clocked an NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 8.04 seconds to win the race. The time currently is the fastest in the nation.
The Hermitage High alum followed that up with a school-record effort in the 400-meter dash on Saturday. Harrison placed second, and was the top collegiate finisher, in the race with a provisional-qualifying 53.64, coming in just under the former Tech standard of 53.66, set by Asia Washington in 2009. She also ran the opening leg of the second-place 4x400-meter relay at the Hokie Invite.
Ricks shattered a school record en route to victory in the 60-meter dash on Friday. The Suffolk, Va., native timed in at 6.65, .07 seconds faster than the former record of 6.72, set by Andre Davis in 2000. Ricks’ time in the event currently ranks third in the nation and first in the ACC. On Saturday, Ricks placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.49.
The Hokies travel to University Park, Pa., this weekend for the Penn State National, the only indoor meet away from Rector Field House before the national meet in March. Results will be available on hokiesports.com.
