MOSKVA, Russia - Former Hokie Queen Harrison capped off her time at the IAAF World Championships with a fifth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles.
After finishing first in her heat with a time of 12.95 seconds, Harrison moved onto the semifinal where she was a part of the fastest group. With a time of 12.71 seconds and a third place finish in the semifinal, Harrison almost didn’t qualify for the final. Because Harrison had the fastest time of the hurdlers who did not automatically qualify she was granted a spot in the final.
Despite barely qualifying for the final race, Harrison made a push in the final, earning a fifth place finish with a time of 12.73 seconds.
While at Tech, Harrison was one of the Hokies’ most accomplished runners. Today, Harrison still holds Virginia Tech outdoor records in the 400-meter, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay and the shuttle hurdle relay. She also holds the Tech indoor records in the 400-meter, 60-meter hurdles and the 4x200-meter relay.
In addition to her school records, Harrison was also a three-time national champion in the 60-meter hurdles, 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Harrison was a five-time All-America selection.
