The Notebook
The men’s track and field squad moved up to No. 12 in the nation in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, released on Tuesday, improving five spots from its ranking last week. The women sit ranked 21st in the nation.
In last week’s poll, the Tech men stood in 17th, while the Hokie women resided at No. 20 in the country. At last weekend’s VT Elite Meet, four Hokies qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, including freshman Alexander Ziegler who tossed an NCAA automatic-qualifying 72-05.75 in the weight throw, while senior Yavgeniy Olhovsky improved on his provisional mark in the pole vault for the men’s squad.
Nine Tech athletes own NCAA-qualifying marks for the men’s unit, while five athletes are qualified in six events for the Hokie women. Tech does not compete this weekend, but returns to Rector Field House on Feb. 19-20 for the VT Challenge.
