At Virginia Tech: Before coming to Athletics, she worked in the Facilities Department as an Executive Secretary to the Director of Facilities from 1986-2000.

Education: Blacksburg High 1983

Personal: Carmela grew up in Blacksburg, Va., and married Jackie Smith (1980 VT Alum). She has two sons, Landon and Austin Smith, and enjoys traveling, golfing, swimming, skiing and riding motorcycles. She currently resides in Blacksburg, VA.
