Strategic Communications
Responsibilities: Robertson handles all the strategic communications efforts for the men’s and women’s cross country programs and assists with both the track and field and football programs. He also oversees the writing, editing and production of Inside Hokie Sports, a 48-page, full-color magazine produced by the Tech athletics department each month that gets mailed to all member of the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund and to those who subscribe. In addition, Robertson helps provide content for hokiesports.com, along with keeping the site as up to date as possible.
Joined VT Athletics Staff: 1996
Prior to Virginia Tech: Robertson worked in the sports department of The Roanoke Times for two years before coming to Tech. He worked on the copy desk, proofing stories while handling any agate pages. He worked part time for the newspaper while at Roanoke College, covering high school sporting events.
Education: Roanoke College, 1994 (B.A. in English)
Of Note: Robertson has won six national writing awards since coming to Virginia Tech. Four of those awards came through the College Sports Publishers Association, and the other two came through entering the annual writing contest sponsored by the College Sports Information Director’s Association.
Personal: A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Robertson lives in Christiansburg, Virginia, with his wife, Deanna, who teaches at Blacksburg Middle School, and their two sons, Brendan and Camden. In his spare time, he loves traveling, reading, and playing golf.
