Responsibilities: A veteran of the Virginia Tech athletics team, Parker’s primary function is to manage the department’s on-going efforts to maintain full compliance with NCAA and ACC regulations.

Joined VT Staff: 1997

At Virginia Tech: Since joining the department in 1997, Parker has directed the expansion of the compliance office staff from two to five members. In his position, he serves as an important resource for many constituencies on campus and throughout the Hokie Nation. The department’s primary liaison with the NCAA office in Indianapolis, Parker leads campus discussions regarding pending NCAA legislation and the work of various NCAA committees and groups. Most importantly, he helps to ensure that Virginia Tech’s coaches have the information they need to make sound decisions whenever NCAA or ACC regulations come into play.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Parker came to Tech after serving a two-year stint as associate executive director of the Patriot League, a Division I conference based on Bethlehem, Pa. Prior to that, he worked as the assistant commissioner for championships and compliance at the Mid-American Conference (1992-95). He also served as the assistant director of communications and compliance in the now-defunct Metro Conference, a position he held from 1988-92.

Education: Lynchburg College, 1987 (B.A. in communications); Richmond, 1991 (master’s in sport management).

Personal: A native of West Point, Va., Parker lives in Christiansburg, where he plays drums in two local bands. His other hobbies include astronomy, traveling in the Southwest, live music, and bicycling. He and wife Michele are the parents of three children: Trevor, Megan, and Mitch.
