Responsibilities: Nichols assists with the creation and production of video broadcasts, big screens and web content. He plays a large role in HokiesXtra and ESPN3 broadcasts alongside the videoboard productions for all volleyball and wrestling home matches at Cassell Coliseum. Nichols also produces features and covers events on and away from campus for hokiesports.com and HokiesXtra.

At Virginia Tech: Since beginning as an intern in the department the spring of his freshman year, Nichols has been involved in the productions of every home football game and most men’s and women’s basketball games since 2011.

From his undergraduate and graduate school years, he filmed football practices in the fall and spring. He has traveled with the football team for selected away games and every bowl game from the 2011-14 seasons. For men’s basketball, he was involved in creating videos for 2014-15 season, including covering behind the scenes of ACC Media Day in Charlotte and attending selected basketball practices.

In addition, Nichols has traveled to cover Olympic sporting events, such as the cross country and track & field ACC Championships. In Blacksburg, Nichols has filmed countless sporting events on campus and produced highlight videos for hokiesports.com and upcoming sporting event commercials for local television stations. The projects he enjoys most involve producing videos that tell a story, whether it be a sit-down interview for a “One-on-One” feature, or demonstrating the excitement and energy of a sporting event.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Nichols began attending Virginia Tech in the fall of 2010 and began working in the HokieVision department as a student intern in the spring of 2011, filming football practices, game highlights and participating in live productions for the videoboards and online streaming games.

Nichols interned within the department for all of his undergraduate years before becoming a graduate assistant in the fall of 2014 shortly after graduation. In May of 2015, he accepted a full-time job within HokieVision.

During his collegiate years, Nichols held multiple internships that included producing/hosting an infotainment show, “JellystoneTV,” for a large campground-resort, creating and maintaining company websites, and hosting a podcast.

Of Note: As a graduate assistant, Nichols received two nominations in 2015 for the SVG/NACDA College Sports Media Awards within the collegiate student division.

Personal: Nichols grew up in the small town of Luray, Virginia, a popular weekend destination within the Shenandoah Valley. He was a sports fan at a young age, with his favorite team being the Baltimore Orioles. Becoming a Hokie fan followed shortly thereafter, and his first Hokie football game was the 2004 Virginia Tech vs. USC showdown at FedExField. Nichols grew up playing sports, and his love for them continues to this day. In his free time, Nichols enjoys traveling, playing recreational sports, going to professional sporting events, being active in the local church, working on personal video projects and spending time with family and friends.
