Strategic Communications
Responsibilities: Mullen handles all strategic communications efforts for the baseball team and is the No. 2 contact for the football program. He also assists with the publication of Inside Hokie Sports and oversees the communications efforts with the Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams.
Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2010
At Virginia Tech: Mullen was the media relations coordinator for the 2013 NCAA Baseball Blacksburg Regional held at English Field. He also assisted with the media relations efforts for games held in Blacksburg (first through quarterfinal rounds) during the 2014 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
Prior to Virginia Tech: Mullen spent nine years at La Salle University (2001-10), working with 18 of the department's athletics programs during his time there. The majority of his duties centered on the baseball, women's basketball and women's soccer teams. Prior to his time at La Salle, he worked for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2000-01) for two seasons - their final year in Three Rivers Stadium and the first in PNC Park.
Education: Bloomsburg University, 1998 (B.A. in mass communications and a B.A. in political science); Duquesne University, 2001, (M.A in corporate communications).
Of Note: Mullen is an active member of both CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and VaSID (Virginia Sports Information Directors). He coordinates the nominating, voting and announcing of the VaSID all-state university division baseball team.
Personal: A native of North Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, Mullen resides in Christiansburg, Virginia, with wife (Amber) and two children (daughter Caitlyn and son Jackson).
