Edward G. Ferrell

BLACKSBURG - Edward G. "Eddie" Ferrell, 55, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998.

Born on July 25, 1943, he was the son of Rita Ferrell and the late William Robert Ferrell. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg. Eddie was the beloved and longtime head football trainer at Virginia Tech. He held the position for 28 years. A graduate of the University of Arkansas, he held posts at the University of Arkansas and Oregon State University, and with the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL before coming to Virginia Tech in 1970. Eddie was a consummate professional on and off the field; he was always striving to improve his credentials, as evidenced by his earning a master's degree in Athletic Administration from Virginia Tech in December of 1994. Eddie was well known for his compassion and sense of humor, as well as his love of racquetball. Over everything, however, was his love for and devotion to family. He was loved and admired by everyone who know him. His smile and quick wit brightened every room he entered. There has never been a man more adored or respected by his four children and his wife.
