ATLANTA - Despite racking up eight hits and allowing only one base hit, Virginia Tech couldn’t win the rubber game against Georgia Tech as the Yellow Jackets topped the Hokies, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Sierra Walton registered her seventh multi-hit game of the season and junior Emma Strouth posted the 30th multi-hit game of her career. Freshman Jordan Dail allowed no hits and struck out five in 2.2 innings of work for the Hokies (21-29, 7-16 ACC) before leaving the game with an injury.

The Yellow Jackets’ (27-23, 12-9 ACC) lone base hit of the game came on a two-run single in the fifth that extended their lead to 3-0. They took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch from Dail.

The Hokies loaded the bases in the third and fourth innings but couldn’t muster a run off of Georgia Tech ace Emily Anderson, who tossed her seventh shutout of the season on Sunday.

Virginia Tech will be back in action on Wednesday where they will close out their home schedule with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Hampton at Tech Softball Park. The Hokies are still in contention for a spot in the ACC Tournament that will run from May 9-12 in Atlanta.
