The Charlotte native had a standout week at the plate and in the circle for the Hokies

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After an impressive week in the batter’s box and in the pitcher’s circle, sophomore Carrie Eberle has been named ACC Player of the Week and ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Eberle is the first player in the ACC since at least 2011 to earn at least a share of both conference weekly awards. She splits Pitcher of the Week honors with Boston College’s Allyson Frei.
Eberle was outstanding in the circle and at the plate, helping the Hokies defeat Liberty and sweep Virginia. The Charlotte, N.C., native batted .467 with four hits, three RBI, two home runs and a double. In the series opener at Virginia, Eberle went 2-for-4 with two home runs, leading the Hokies to a 6-2 win. As a pitcher, the Hokie sophomore turned in 22 innings of work in three complete games, striking out 16 and allowing only two earned runs. Eberle, who went 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA in three starts, allowed only eight hits against 77 batters.
Her efforts led the Hokies to their first three-game sweep in Charlottesville since 2007. The ‘Hoos entered the weekend with the second-highest slugging percentage in the ACC and they could only muster three extra base hits against Eberle.
In non-conference action, Eberle spun a one-hit, complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over Liberty in eight innings last Tuesday. She also went 3 for 4 with an RBI single and a run scored the next night at Radford, her first career three-hit performance.
Eberle and the Hokies are back in action tonight against Liberty at 6 p.m. before they face Duke this weekend for a three-game series at Tech Softball Park.
