Hokies travel to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina

BLACKSBURG – Coming off of a midweek doubleheader sweep over Charlotte on Wednesday, Virginia Tech returns to ACC action this weekend as the Hokies get set to travel to North Carolina for a three-game set from April 6-8.

All three games will be streamed on ACC Network EXTRA via the WatchESPN platform and live stats will be available on HokieSports.com. The Hokies will play against the Tar Heels in a Friday doubleheader at 4 and 6 p.m. ET and on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Hokies (15-20, 2-9 ACC) have won four of their last six games dating back to the second game of a midweek doubleheader against Longwood on March 27. The Tech pitching staff, which boasts a team ERA of 2.28 – fourth-best in the ACC – entering this weekend, has tossed an impressive 1.63 ERA in that span. The offense has also started to pick up steam as they’ve slugged .433 over the six-game span.

Tech now turns its attentions to Tar Heels who lead the all-time the series with the Hokies, 27-15. The Hokies are 5-11 all-time in Chapel Hill and last registered a win at Anderson Stadium on March 30, 2013, a 7-6 victory. Tech’s 13-4 run-rule win at Tech Softball Park on March 19 of last season snapped a seven-game losing skid against the Tar Heels. It also marked the Hokies’ first run-rule win over UNC in the all-time series.

NOLE BREAKS OUT AGAINST CHARLOTTE

-After knocking on the door the last couple of weeks when she’s been making solid contact, junior Caitlyn Nolan had herself a day in the doubleheader against Charlotte.

-Nolan led the charge at the plate in the two wins where she went 4 for 8 with a home run and seven RBI.

-Her four RBI were on an RBI fielder’s choice, RBI single and two RBI double in the second game matched her career high set when she was a freshman against Boston College on March 20, 2016.
