BLACKSBURG – After a midweek split with Longwood that featured a 5-1 victory for the Hokies, Virginia Tech returns to Tech Softball Park this weekend where they will face Notre Dame on Friday and Saturday.

First pitch for Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m. before the two teams play a noon doubleheader that will wrap up the series on Saturday. Saturday’s twin bill will be broadcast on ACC Network EXTRA via the WatchESPN platform and Friday night’s contest will have an audio stream on HokieSports.com. Evan Hughes will be on the call for all three games.

Virginia Tech’s 5-1 win over Longwood in the night cap on Tuesday saw the Hokies hit three home runs, a season high, off the bats of sophomore Taylor Clark, sophomore Carrie Eberle and junior Olivia Lattin. The strong offensive performance was coupled with a nearly flawless performance by freshman Jordan Dail in circle, who allowed only four hits, no walks and struck out six batters. The Lancers lone run of the game came on a solo home run in the seventh inning.

The Hokies (12-18, 1-7 ACC) now turn their attention to Notre Dame, a team that has had Tech’s number in the all-time series. The Irish have won its last 12 games and own an overall record of 23-6 against the Hokies.

EBERLE DOES IT ALL

  • From her freshman to her sophomore season, Carrie Eberle has stepped up significantly in both the pitcher’s circle and the batter’s box for the Hokies.
  • After being thrown into the fire as a true freshman where she led the team with 38 appearances and 153.2 innings pitched, Eberle now ranks fifth in the ACC with a 1.81 ERA and is tied for seventh with three shutouts.
  • She also leads the Hokies with three home runs this season to go along with a .250 batting average and eight RBI.
  • In Eberle’s 14 starts, she has gone the distance in 10 of them, a total that ranks fourth in the conference.

TECH’S DYNAMIC DUO IN THE CIRCLE

  • Eberle’s counterpart in the circle is freshman Jordan Dail, who’s currently tied for eighth in the ACC with 86 strikeouts and ranks third in the conference with 8.52 strikeouts per seven innings.
  • In opponent’s batting average, Eberle (.188) and Dail (.189) rank fourth and fifth respectively.
  • Florida State’s Kylee Hanson and Meghan King are the only other two pitchers from the same team to be ranked in the top five in opponent’s batting average.
  • Dail, who has registered three 10-plus strikeout games this season, struck out 13 batters in the second game of a doubleheader against Pitt (3/23), a season-high for the Hokies.
