Hokies set to host Radford in 2018 home opener
Tech is 7-5 entering the week and is coming off of a win over No. 20 Michigan last weekend

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech returns to Tech Softball Park this week for its 2018 home opener against Radford at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28.
Admission is free and the game will be streamed live on ACC Network EXTRA via the WatchESPN platform. There will be hot chocolate available for the first 100 fans and free stadium blankets to the first 125 fans in attendance.
The Hokies (7-5) are coming off of a 1-3 weekend at the Texas Invitational, which featured a 1-0 extra innings win over 20th-ranked Michigan. Through the first three weekends, Tech has already played four games against three teams that finished in the top 30 of the RPI last season.
INSIDE THE SERIES: VIRGINIA TECH VS. RADFORD
- The Hokies are 40-11 all-time against the Highlanders in a series that dates back to the first year of the program in 1996.
- Tech’s New River Valley foe was able to split with them last season, snapping a 12-game losing streak with an 8-0 run-rule victory in Radford on April 19, 2017.
- The Hokies bounced back days later at Tech Softball Park on April 26 where they defeated the Highlanders, 2-0.
- In home games, the Hokies are 25-6 all-time against Radford.
TECH SOFTBALL PARK TURNS 20
- This season marks the 20th anniversary of the first season of Tech Softball Park.
- TSP was completed in the fall of 1997 and hosted its first game on March 25, 1998, an 8-6 win in extra innings over Charlotte.
- Tech Softball Park successfully hosted its first ACC Championship in 2010 and hosted it again in 2015.
- The largest crowd in the history of Tech Softball Park came on April 20, 2013 when 2,251 packed in to see the Hokies take on Florida State.
