DURHAM, N.C. - An eight strikeout, complete game shutout from sophomore Carrie Eberle led Virginia Tech to a 5-0 win over Purdue to complete a 4-0 weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Sunday.

Eberle matched her career-high in strikeouts and tossed her second consecutive shutout for the Hokies (6-2). Senior Jessie Mehr went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI, freshman Sammi Miller hit her first career home run and junior Olivia Lattin registered an RBI single.

With two outs in the top of the third, Miller and senior Caroline Schoenewald reached on back-to-back base hits. Lattin then followed with a single of her own through the left side scored Miller from second, giving the Hokies a 1-0 lead.

The Boilermakers threatened in the bottom of the fourth with a runner on second and one out but Eberle registered consecutive strikeouts to end the inning. Miller then led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run over the right field fence that extended Tech’s lead to 2-0.

After Eberle got a strikeout looking to end the sixth, Schoenewald reached on a one-out single in the top of the seventh. Another single from junior Emma Strouth moved her to second before Mehr sent a pitch over the left field fence for a three-run homer that made it 5-0.
