Seven Hokies named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

Tech wraps up their fall season this weekend; Hit-A-Thon set for Oct. 27

BLACKSBURG - Seven Virginia Tech softball players have been named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athletes, the organization announced Wednesday.

2017 graduate Vanessa Gonzalez, senior Breanna Davenport, junior Kinsey Johnson, redshirt junior Chelsea Whitcomb, sophomore Dani Hugney and sophomore Carrie Eberle each finished the 2016-17 academic year with a 3.5 GPA or higher. The NFCA saw a record 7,351 softball players across seven membership divisions earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year.

The Hokies wrap up their fall season this weekend with a 2 p.m. doubleheader vs. Richard Bland on Saturday, Oct. 14, and a 1 p.m. twin bill against Milligan on Sunday, Oct. 15.

On Oct. 27, Tech will host their fourth annual Hit-A-Thon at 6 p.m. at Tech Softball Park. Fans can sponsor student-athletes, the “Voice of the Hokies” Jon Laaser, Director of Athletics Whit Babcock and other celebrity hitters in a bracket style competition with all proceeds benefitting the softball program.
