GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Vanessa Gonzalez, junior Breanna Davenport and freshman Carrie Eberle of the Virginia Tech softball team have been named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Team, the conference announced Thursday.
Davenport and Gonzalez both earned their second all-academic honors while Eberle was one of seven freshmen to make the 30-player list. The Hokies’ three selections tied for the third most in the conference with Georgia Tech and behind Louisville (5) and Florida State (7).
Davenport, a human development major, turned in a junior campaign that saw her claim second-team All-ACC and second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region accolades. She hit .333 and ranked second on the team with 10 doubles, eight home runs and 29 RBI. Gonzalez tied for 10th in the ACC this past season with 10 home runs and will leave Blacksburg with a degree in human development. An ACC All-Freshman Team selection, Eberle tied for sixth in the league with 14 games finished and ranked 10th with 38 appearances and 153.1 innings pitched.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
