Two Hokies earn ACC postseason honors

Davenport gets voted onto the second team, while Eberle earns All-Freshman accolades

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two Virginia Tech softball players have been recognized by the ACC for their play this past season as junior Breanna Davenport was named second-team All-ACC and freshman Carrie Eberle was tabbed to the All-Freshman Team, the conference announced Thursday.

For Davenport it’s her first all-conference accolade while Eberle is the Hokies’ first-ever representative on the all-freshman squad.

A third team NFCA All-Region selection as a freshman, Davenport led the Hokies with a .408 batting average in conference play with four home runs, four doubles, 17 runs scored, 11 runs driven in and an OPS of 1.097. Her five-hit game against Louisville in the first game of a doubleheader on April 14 tied for the most in an ACC game this season and was only the third five-hit game in program history. In all games this season, Davenport hit .333 and ranked second on the team with 10 doubles, eight home runs and 29 RBI.

Eberle led the Hokies in ACC play with 52.0 innings pitched, three complete games, seven starts, a save and 21 strikeouts. She led all conference freshmen in league games with nine games finished and 11 relief appearances. Overall, the Charlotte native went 9-11 with a 3.42 ERA, 10 complete games, two saves and two shutouts in her true freshman campaign.

Virginia Tech is coming off an injury-plagued 2017 season, but will welcome a dynamic recruiting class next year. The six-player class features four Virginia natives, including arguably two of the top senior pitchers in the state. Read more about the class here.
