LAS VEGAS - After topping Indiana State 4-3 earlier in the day, the Virginia Tech softball team dropped a 10-2 decision to UNLV on Saturday at the Sportco Kick Off Classic in Las Vegas.
Sophomore Olivia Lattin and freshman Taylor Clark both hit solo home runs for the Hokies (1-1). Lattin went 4-for-6 over two games on Friday including her 2-for-2 outing against the Rebels.
Clark, who registered her first career start against the Rebels at third base, stepped to the plate with the Hokies trailing 4-0 entering the top of the fifth. She made it a 4-1 ball game with one swing of the bat and, later on in the inning with two, Lattin hit solo bomb of her own that made it 4-2.
UNLV’s patience at the plate and strong starting pitching from Morgan Ettinger, who struck out seven in a complete game effort, proved to be key in their win over the Hokies.
Tech returns to action tomorrow where they will take on CSU Bakersfield at 9 p.m. EST and Southern Utah at 11 p.m. EST. Live stats will be available on HokieSports.com.
