BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech softball team’s third annual Hit-A-Thon, the program’s top fundraising event, has been set for Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. at Tech Softball Park.
The evening of fun will feature the Hokies and celebrity hitters taking their best hacks in an effort to benefit the program. Fans are encouraged to sponsor celebrity participants and members of the Tech softball team by pledging a dollar amount per foot the ball travels per hit.
"Our Hit-A-Thon raises money for our program to do some things for our softball student-athletes beyond our budget while involving the rest of the athletic department in a fun setting,” head coach Scot Thomas said. “You never know what you may see. Maybe a guy riding a Harley on the field? Wait, that was me last year!"
Donors choose the price per foot with a minimum pledge beginning at 25 cents. Hitters’ performance determines the amount of funds raised. Each participant will have 10 swings with the furthest hit counting towards the pledge.
Kids are encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween costumes and participate in a free “Trunk-or-Treat” on the field once the event concludes.
All proceeds benefit the Virginia Tech softball program. To make a pledge for a Hit-A-Thon participant, contact Whitney Davis Showalter at (540) 231-7240.
