GREENSBORO, N.C. - After a 3-0 weekend, senior Maggie Tyler has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Co-Pitcher of the Week with Pittsburgh’s Kayla Harris while North Carolina’s Berlynne Delamora earned the Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Tyler gave up a single run through 18.2 innings in the circle, posting a 0.48 ERA. The senior struck out 19 batters, without issuing a walk against 70 batters faced. Tyler threw two complete games, collecting a shutout on three wins. She now sits one away from her career high of 15 season wins set in both 2014 and 2015.
Tyler garnered the conference honor for the second consecutive week, third in her career. Florida State’s Jessica Burroughs is the only other ACC pitcher to receive the award multiple times this season (three).
Harris earned three of Pitt’s four wins on the week, including two in an ACC series victory over NC State. Harris allowed three runs in 15 total innings pitched while striking out 17 batters. The Chesapeake, Virginia, native allowed just five total hits and two walks while striking out 10 in the Panthers’ two wins over the Wolfpack. She began the week with a five-inning, two-hit, six strikeout performance in a five-inning shutout of St. Bonaventure.
Delamora led the Tar Heels to a 4-1 week that included a series win over 25th-ranked and second-place ACC opponent Louisville. The Hacienda Heights, California, native hit .667 (9-for-12) with a 1.000 slugging percentage and .750 on-base percentage. That included a clutch .833 (5-for-6) with runners in scoring position and four two-out RBIs. Delamora was also perfect defensively with six putouts and four assists at third base.
Tyler and the Hokies return to Tech Softball Park on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for a doubleheader against James Madison.
