BLACKSBURG, Va. – A minimum of eight Virginia Tech softball series will be broadcast via television or online this season, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference as part of the spring 2016 Olympic sports schedule.
Hokie fans can watch 14 games on ESPN3, in addition to seven on HokiesXtra, the department’s in-house online broadcast. There is the potential for broadcasts by non-conference opponents, but they have yet to be announced.
“Anytime we can get out on video is a bonus for our program,” head coach Scot Thomas said. “It’s not only the direction of college athletics but obviously the popularity of softball in general. We’re excited to have these opportunities. Hopefully fans can see us who aren’t able to get to Blacksburg and entice them to make the trips out to see us in person.”
The five ESPN3 series are as follows: March 5-6 at NC State, March 25-26 at Georgia Tech, April 9-10 at Louisville, April 16-17 vs. Notre Dame, and April 30-May 1 vs. Virginia. HokiesXtra will broadcast the series with Boston College (March 19-20) and doubleheaders against Liberty (March 30) and James Madison (April 6). All home games this season are slated for Tech Softball Park.
The Hokies are looking to build on last year’s campaign as they finished 34-23, seventh in the ACC with a 9-14 record.
Tech begins the 2016 season next Friday, February 12 in Tampa, Florida at the USF-DeMarini Tournament.
