BLACKSBURG – The tradition continues for the Virginia Tech softball team with the Hokies’ second annual Hit-A-Thon, taking place on Friday, Oct. 23 with a 5 p.m. first pitch at Tech Softball Park.
The event will feature celebrity sluggers as well as members of the Virginia Tech softball team. In addition to numerous first-timers this year, four celebrity hitters will be returning for the event: director of athletics Whit Babcock, assistant athletics director Kevin Jones, and coaches Charley Wiles and Buzz Williams.
Fans are encouraged to sponsor celebrity participants and members of the Tech softball team by pledging a dollar amount per foot the ball travels per hit.
Donors choose the price per foot with a minimum pledge, beginning at 25 cents. Hitters’ performance determines the amount of funds raised. Each participant has 10 swings with the furthest hit counting towards the pledge.
Kids are encouraged to dress up and participate in a free “Trunk-or-Treat” on the field once the event concludes.
All proceeds benefit the Virginia Tech Softball Program. To make a pledge for a Hit-A-Thon participant, contact Whitney Davis at (540) 231-7240.
