KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Two members of the Virginia Tech softball squad were named to the NFCA’s all-region team, as announced Thursday morning by the organization. Senior Kylie McGoldrick (second base) was named to the second team while freshman outfielder Breanna Davenport was named to the third team.
Virginia Tech is in the Mid-Atlantic Region and both are now eligible for All-America honors.
For McGoldrick, it’s her third all-region honor as she also made the first team each of the past two seasons. The Stratford, New Jersey, native was a second-team All-ACC selection who is second on the team with a .333 batting average and leads the team with 44 RBIs. She has seven home runs, 12 doubles and 30 walks.
McGoldrick becomes the seventh player in program history to earn all-region honors at least three times.
Davenport, from Statesville, North Carolina, leads the team with a .338 average despite missing a majority of the past three weeks with an ankle injury. She is tied for team team lead with 12 doubles and also has four home runs.
Tech (34-21) will begin NCAA Regional play Friday afternoon in Knoxville, Tennessee, against second-seeded Utah at 3:30 p.m.
