BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech softball team will look to snap its five-game losing streak this weekend with an important three-game series with Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, to wrap up the regular season. The two will play the doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m., and then the single game on Sunday at noon at Shea Field.
The Hokies currently sit at 33-18, 8-12 in the ACC. If the season ended today, they’d be the No. 7 seed in next week’s ACC Softball Championship, but could move up to the No. 6 seed with a strong weekend.
BC (25-22, 4-14 ACC) needs to win two games to move past Georgia Tech (16-34, 6-18 ACC) and grab the No. 8 spot in the Championship. Anything less than two wins and the Yellow Jackets will face top-seeded Florida State in Thursday’s opener. North Carolina is locked into the No. 2 seed while the other six seeds/spots are still up for grabs.
The Hokies will enter the weekend at 8-12 in the conference and need to win two more games than Pitt (10-11), which hosts Louisville (14-6), to finish sixth. Tech is locked into next week’s tournament, which begins Thursday at Tech Softball Park, and will be either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed and will play Thursday evening either against North Carolina, Notre Dame or Louisville. The Cardinals can vault to the No. 3 seed with a sweep of Pitt.
Tickets can be purchased online for the entire tournament, or at the gate.
